History of RACSA’s Internet service
in Costa Rica
The beginnings
To
extend the technological and information possibilities between the companies,
facilitate the access and enable the fast updated information exchange, Radiográfica Costarricense, S.A. (RACSA) inaugurated on April, 1994 the
Internet service in business terms in the country.
After
the analysis of procedures, duties assignment, users’ profiles,
description and development of services to set in operation the Internet
service, millions of dollars were invested on equipment installation,
routers, communications servers, international channels and commuted
accesses.
10 years
ago a new challenge to RACSA began aiming at introducing a service made
for a very particular market regarding the other services that the company
had implemented up to then, due to which the potential market was not the
corporate sector –to which RACSA had addressed, in general terms- but also
the personal and residential sector, since it was known that this would
also have a wide demand for this new service.
Development
From the
beginning of its operation to date, the Internet service growth in Costa
Rica has experienced a constant growth of over 10% yearly.
Among
Internet’s most relevant strengths are its worldwide coverage and its
capacity to allow global interaction between different computers through a
common language.
The
abovementioned allows the interested party to establish contact with
different people at a worldwide level, facilitating the information or
services providers to reach an immediate market penetration towards
potential customers and a dynamic and economic access to millions of
graphical information servers (WWW) throughout the world. All this carried
out in a dynamic and economic fashion.
The
services mostly used by the customers within Internet are the email and
access to graphical information servers (WWW), due to the reason that
theses services respond to the people’s needs in searching information for
decision making, research of different subjects or simply entertainment.
Given
that at RACSA we are clear about what are this phenomena’s implications,
we are continually developing projects associated to Internet that enable
the customers have value added services, in order to along with
information providing companies, develop solutions accordant to the needs
of the country’s productive sectors, as well as to the residential
sector’s interest, while we promote the development of value added
services on the Internet.
The
abovementioned fact since Internet is constituting in a wide
communications network oriented to the multi-means application
development, offering the content providers new options of offering to the
Costa Rican and worldwide market different services with a tendency to
improve the quality of life.
Within
this scenario, RACSA is clear in its mission of being the technological
bridge responding for these content providers to be closet o their
customers, due to which aware of this responsibility, we have a solid plan
aiming to develop this network at a national and international level. }
